As the experts in all things wallpaper, our team at Home Flair Decor are often consulted by homeowners about some of the myths and stigmas associated with wallpapering, or just general wallpapering FAQs!
With decades of experience under our belt, we’d like to think we know a thing or two about wallpapering. That’s why we’ve compiled some of the internet's most common YET UNANSWERED customer questions, queries and concerns and we’re ready to bust a few wallpaper myths along the way – to assist our online customers in making the best decisions for their home interior.
Myth 1 - Wallpaper is not on-trend
It’s not surprising that some people feel that wallpaper is not on-trend because it’s been used in homes for centuries. However, this couldn’t be further from the truth. Year after year, wallpaper designs and styles evolve with interior designers publicising the latest trends for the year ahead. These styles are showcased in home magazines and used in TV makeover shows, as well as shared across the globe via social media.

Myth 2 - Wallpaper is a hassle to hang
Hanging wallpaper is not as daunting as it sounds, and we have produced a How to Hang Wallpaper guide to help beginners decorate their homes with some beautiful wallpaper.
The quality of wallpaper these days means it’s easy to hang and can be a lot quicker to decorate a room than applying multiple coats of paint.
Myth 3 - Wallpaper is not good for kitchens
There is a lot of discussion around moisture in kitchens which comes from cooking, washing up and drying clothes, so people are sceptical about applying wallpaper in their kitchen. However, the truth is kitchens are ideal places to decorate with wallpaper for the following reasons.
- It’s an affordable way to update a kitchen
- Kitchen wallpaper looks great and coordinates with kitchen cabinets and appliances
- On-trend especially with tile, stone and metal effect wallpapers
- The protective coating on kitchen wallpapers make them washable
- Some kitchen wallpapers are also scrubbable so they’re easy to clean and maintain
Myth 4 - Paint offers more choice than wallpaper
Many people believe that paints give more choice when it comes to interior decoration, however, wallpaper offers more choices from its range of colours, textures, patterns - even the direction you hang it.
Myth 5 - Wallpaper is hard to remove
Some people are under the impression that wallpaper is hard to remove, and this can put them off redecorating and creating their perfect room. However, this is not the case.
Non-woven high-performance wallpapers or vinyl wallcoverings may just require a quick tug at a corner to pull the entire sheet is down, which should only take a few seconds. For other wallpapers, the use of steamers, strippers or surfactants like soapy water can be used to remove wallpaper, and again this doesn’t take very long - dependant on the room size of course!
One thing to note is to ensure you prepare any surfaces or floorings before removing wallpaper to protect them.
