Our home decor is often led by the size and shape of our rooms, another aspect is often overlooked but plays a key part in how we live...and that’s light.
If you have been blessed with a south facing home this might not be at the top of your requirements. However, those of us that are north facing, have smaller windows, live in a built up area or are overshadowed by nature you need to tread carefully and lift, enhance and reflect where possible to maximise what we can get.
Using a wallpaper with metallic or reflective properties can really brighten up your place and allow you to move away from those neutrals that you have been limited to for so long.
Metallic does not always mean glitter and if that's not your thing we have a tried and tested alternative for wallpaper, look for products with added mica. Mica is a naturally occurring substance that is mined, ground and mixed into inks and coatings allowing wall-coverings to absorb light where available.
Mica also gives a pearlescent glow and sheen to wall-coverings and is often used in silhouette for tonal patterns or within the main body of a wallpaper in textured plains.
If you want WOW factor, a foil based wall-covering will allow you to add bright pops of colour with high light reflection or cool grey and silver for a clean polished look. If you do love glitter and shine we do have wallpapers combining both glitter, metallic foils and tactile textures.
Preparation is key to these often super smooth reflective wallpapers, we would always recommend using lining paper on your walls and especially so with metallics. Light will reflect from any surface imperfection highlighting poor wall preparation.
