What is the best colour for a hall, stairs and landing?

Neutral colourways are a popular choice for hallways, stairways and landings for multiple reasons. Being a functional space, you need to think about light levels. Soft and neutral tones give good light reflection back into the space.

Consider off-whites, beiges and creams, greys and greiges, each offers gentle comfort whilst retaining the lux level.

My hallway & staircase is so small, can I still use wallpaper?

Yes! Don’t be afraid to make a big impression with a small space. A cleverly chosen design can open up your hallway by fooling the eye into where a wall ends or a corner exists.

Dense or detailed patterns can make others (and yourself of course) think your space is much larger than it actually is. Think about all-over leaves or floral trails, keep any geometrics in mind for another project.

My Staircase is enclosed, how can I make this feel more welcoming?

Keep your enclosed staircase bright and light in colour where possible, a light reflective wallcovering can also help bounce what light you do have back into the space. Play with tonal patterns, surface sculpture and texture for interest, Italian Vinyls would be both a durable and tactile choice.

What hall wallpaper styles will make a lasting impression?

All too often, this area is stripped of style and instead ridden with a jumble of coats, shoes and bags. Clear the clutter and make an entrance with a standout wallpaper design that really sets the tone for the rest of your home interiors.

This could be anything from a particular themed print you think reflects your individuality, or a touch of shimmer to dazzle your guests with a sprinkling of glitter.

Wallpaper styles to pass on for halls & stairs

When decorating a hallway and up the stairs, please do keep in mind the angle of the stairway and any dado/picture rail you may have in place. Some patterns can look out of place when trimmed against such prominent features.

Avoid rectangles and square patterns such as wood panelling or ginghams/checks. These create a perfect illusion on standard-shaped walls, but this can be lost upon cutting through on a diagonal.
